2010 Card Golfers Inexperienced

spring-preseason-golf.jpgFew returning varsity players and lettermen means a new look for the Boone Central boys golf team in 2010.
Even the Cardinal coach is new, in a way, as former mentor Dennis Walters returns to the position this spring.
One positive for the young, inexperienced BC squad is strong numbers, as Walters welcomed 16 prospects to last week’s opening practices.
While it certainly won’t be easy to replace three-time state tournament qualifier Bryce Morgan, two varsity lettermen do return from the 2009 Cardinal squad and should serve as a nucleus for Walters to build around.
Sophomore Kade Leetch had some impressive moments in ‘09, helping Boone Central finish fifth in the Mid-State Conference by tieing for second individually (78). Leetch also medaled at the Neligh Invite and shot a 95 in the district meet, missing state meet qualification by just four strokes. Senior Tanner Warner was also a varsity regular last season and fired a best score of 89 in the Lakeview Invite as Boone Central placed fourth.
A large group of hopefuls will vie for varsity and JV positions this spring, including seniors Kevin Liss, Alex Schafer and Miles Wynn, juniors Curtis Thompson, Jacob Olson, Samuel Johnson, John Moore and Logan Frey, sophomores Mark Tisthammer, Sean Soll and Jordan Bauld and freshmen Jesse Zwiener, John Kennedy and Hunter Henry.
Weather permitting, the Cardinals are scheduled to tee off the season in a dual at Ord Tuesday, April 6, then return for the Ord Invite Friday, April 9.
