Card Track Teams Open At Madison Relays

Boone Central kicked off the 2010 track & field season with impressive performances at the Madison Relays Tuesday, March 30.
The Cardinal girls nipped West Holt 96-90 to win the event and the Boone Central boys finished a competitive fifth.
Boone Central Coach Kris Pestel felt it was a good start for her squads.
“We were able to score in every event we entered in both the girls and boys competition,” Pestel noted. “The wind made things a little difficult, but compared to the weather we’ve had the past month, it was beautiful.”
“This is a different type meet where every event is a relay,” she explained. “In field events, the best three performances are added together to get the team results.
“The girls were able to win 8 of 15 events we were entered in. The boys won 2 of 14 events and placed first, second or third in 10 of 14.
“We have some areas to improve in, but for the first meet, we were fairly pleased as a coaching staff with our entire team.”
In girls competition, Boone Central dominated the field events, winning four and placing third in another. Sara Wells, Kattie Cleveland and Maria Glidden combined to win the discus relay (289-5.5) and shot put relay (93-5.75). Savannah Baker, Jaime Kennedy and Terri Molt captured first place in the long jump (44-5.75) and Molt, Emily Carder and Rachel Lee won the triple jump (86-6.25).
The Lady Cards scored four more victories on the track. Breann Thorberg, Baker, Kennedy and Bobbi Beckwith won the 400 meter relay (53.4); Wells, Cleveland, Glidden and Brooke Bolin took first in the 400M field-event relay (1:02.2); Molt, Kennedy, Thorberg and Beckwith captured the 1600 relay (4:30.3) and Aleana Hager, Shannon Stuhlmiller, McKenzie Mescher and Jenna Lehmann won the 400M freshmen relay.
Boone Central also won the 400M freshmen relay in boys competition (Nick Paulson, Beau Bremer, Logan Olson, Blake Slizoski – 51.2) and Brody Kelly led a one-through-five Cardinal sweep in the 3200 meter run (12.26.8).
The Cards had runner-up performances in the triple jump relay (Cole Luettel, Parker Struebing, Nick Paulson – 111-6.75) and the distance medley event (Jacob Lindgren, Wade Reigle, Calvin Koziol, Kevin Carder – 12:18.3).
