A first step in construction of the Laredo Ridge Wind Farm will likely begin later this week.
Boone County Commissioners granted special permission Monday and amended the County Roads Agreement with Laredo Ridge to allow construction of two permanent meteorological towers in the wind farm area.
Patrick Dalseth, project coordinator with Midwest Wind Energy LLC, said these permanent 80-meter towers will collect wind data that will be used to judge the output and efficiency of the wind farm once it is built. They will replace the temporary 60-meter towers that have been gathering data for more than a year.
One of the met towers will be located about one mile west and 1 1/2 miles north of Petersburg. The other will be located directly south of the planned Laredo Ridge collector substation, about three miles east and 1 1/2 miles south of Petersburg.
