NPPD holds open house on planned transmission line

NPPD project manager Jack Sstoner discusses the Keystone XL Pipeline and the electronic transmission line that will serve a pumping station.Open house sessions at Ericson and Petersburg last week marked another step in the two-year process that will lead to construction of the 115 kV transmission line from Petersburg to Ericson, a distance of 37.2 miles.

Representatives from Nebraska Public Power District and several of its contractors met with 45 people to discuss the power line plans in the Petersburg American Legion on Thursday, April 15. They met with about 35 people in Ericson on Tuesday, April 13.

With the narrowing of the power line corridor and selection of both preferred and alternate line routes, the emphasis is to work with landowners on resolving any concerns they may have.

Key routing criteria for the transmission line includes the number of “heavy angles,” distance to houses, center pivot conflicts and access to the route.

Next step in the process will be public hearings that are tentatively scheduled for mid-July in both Petersburg and Ericson. Following that will be a 30-day comment period on the proposed line.
