BC Golfers Compete In Wayne Invite

The Wayne ‘MAC’ Invitational golf tournament annually features one of the largest fields of Northeast Nebraska schools and, generally, one of the most difficult.
The 2010 event was no exception, with Hartington Cedar Catholic claiming the championship in the 20-team competition with a score of 325 on a cloudy, chilly day Thursday, May 6.
The Boone Central Cardinals put together a 390 team total to finish 15th in the standings.
Sophomore Kade Leetch paced Boone Central with a 45/46-91, good for 34th place individually. Junior Curtis Thompson added a 47/49-96 and senior Kevin Liss came in at 51/48-99. Junior Logan Frey rounded out the team score with a 52/52-104 and freshman Hunter Henry finished at 54/55-109.
Tekamah-Herman placed second in the team standings with a 336, followed by Blair (342), Wayne (347) and South Sioux City (350).
Blair’s Collin Vacek took medalist honors with a 76 over the Wayne Country Club layout. Brett Klug of Hartington C.C. was second following a tie-breaker with Blake Bowland of Tekamah-Herman and Crofton’s Christian Nohr. All three players shot 79.
Boone Central was scheduled to play in the Fullerton Invitational Tuesday and will compete in the B-3 District tournament Monday, May 17, at Southern Hills in Hastings.
