Rejection of two ballots from the May 11 primary election broke the tie in the District 3 Democratic race for Boone County Commissioner.
As a result, Ken Luettel was the official winner of the District 3 seat with 81 votes, while incumbent Hank Thieman received 79 votes.
Unofficial election results last Tuesday had showed the two candidates tied with 81 votes each. However, action by the election Canvassing Board, meeting last Thursday and Friday, resulted in two less votes for Thieman.
After review of the election materials, the Canvassing Board found that two ballots in Oakland Precinct had not been properly initialed and therefore should not have been counted.
Both of the rejected ballots included votes for Thieman, reducing his vote total by two.
