All veterans, regardless of their circumstances or station in life, should be honored for the service and sacrifice they gave, said Donald H. Schriver, guest speaker for Memorial Day services Monday, May 31, on the Boone County Courthouse lawn.
“We need to take time to remember that freedom isn’t free,” said Schriver, a Vietnam veteran and brother of rural Albion residents Bill and Ken Schriver.
Schriver said he appreciates the large turnout of Albion area residents each year to commemorate Memorial Day. He said he has attended many services and visited many war memorials in the U.S. and Europe over the years, and is always impressed by those who express appreciation.
That appreciation is important, he said, not only for those whose lives were taken, but also for those who served and returned, and for those currently serving
