Olson, North Fall Short In Shrine Bowl

Nathan Olson (74) in Shrine actionDespite threatening skies over Lincoln Saturday evening, the 52nd Annual Shrine Bowl went off without a hitch at historic Memorial Stadium.
The South, led by a record-setting aerial attack, took early leads of 14-0 and 21-3 and held off the North for a 28-13 victory.
After falling behind on two early South touchdowns in the first quarter, the North was never able to get closer than 11 points despite the game’s 10 point rule that allows the trailing team to receive the kickoff after any score by either squad.
“The rule is a good one because it keeps the game lively,” South Coach Kevin Kush of Boys Town commented following the contest. “but your defense is out there again and again. Our guys were running out of gas.”
Nathan Olson, a 2010 graduate of Boone Central High School, was a member of the North team headed by Howells High School Coach Mike Speirs. Olson alternated at offensive guard in the contest, as well as playing on special teams, including long-snap duties on the punt unit.
