With a large holiday weekend crowd on hand anticipating the massive post-race fireworks display, drivers provided some on-track fireworks as well Friday, July 2, at the Boone County Raceway in Albion.
The ninth BCR racing card of 2010 produced one first-time winner and three repeat victors in Friday’s feature events. None of the results did much to change the season point standings at the fairgrounds track, however.
Dusty Poessnecker of Atkinson won his first BCR Hobby Stock A Feature and retained his second-place position in the season standings. After winning the initial three Hobby features this season, Jason Wilkinson’s dry streak in the class reached six weeks Friday, but the Neligh racer remains 19 points in front of Poessnecker.
Albion’s Mark Hooker won his second Stock Car feature and continued to close the gap on Wilkinson in that division. Wilkinson leads Stock Car competitors with five 2010 feature victories, but is just two points ahead of Hooker in the season chase.
Friday’s Modified A Feature finish reflected the season standings through the top four places. Tyler Iverson captured his third Mod feature win, most in the class in 2010, and leads fellow Albion driver Mark Lueken by 11 points overall.
Winside’s Tad Behmer became the second Late Model driver to score two BCR feature wins this season, along with point leader Lueken, and moved into third place in the standings. Albion’s Mike Kelley is second, 16 points back of Lueken.
Competition will continue at the Boone County Raceway July 9 with a regular card of four classes.
