Solid growth has marked the 30-year history of the Cargill grain elevator just south of Albion.
The facility marked its 30th anniversary last Friday, July 16, with a buffet lunch, prize drawings and “trolley tours” for its customers and the public.
The celebration provided reason for Bob Racek, original manager of the facility, to reflect on the history. Participating in the anniversary event (above photo)were Jim Cook, left, and Racek, who were on the original five-person staff when the elevator opened in 1980. Both are still working for Cargill. Cook is an elevator operator, while Racek has been a Farm Service Group manager for Cargill grain facilities since 1998.
See the July 21 Albion News Print and Electronic Editions for history and details of the elevator’s growth.
