A host of speakers touted the benefits of wind energy development in Boone County at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Laredo Ridge wind farm in Petersburg last Wednesday, July 21. The wind farm, already under construction, will generate 81 megawatts of electricity from 51 wind turbines. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
As part of the program, Boone Central School Superintendent Cory Worrell announced a proposal for a new wind energy Educational-Economic Business Center to be located at Petersburg. Ron Litzinger, chief executive officer of the wind farm owner, Edison Mission Group, responded by announcing that his company will contribute $25,000 in seed money for the new center.
