Friday, July 30, marked the first point leader change in many weeks at the Boone County Raceway as Mark Hooker of Albion used his third A Feature victory of the season to pass Neligh’s Jason Wilkinson and top the 2010 Stock Car standings.
Wilkinson, who had put a stranglehold on the Hobby Stock and Stock Car standings since opening the season with consecutive feature wins in both classes, fell two points behind Hooker with a fifth-place feature run Friday. Wilkinson did win his fourth Hobby feature of 2010 and enjoys a comfortable 20-point advantage in that division.
Brad Vogt of Pierce scored his initial feature victory of the season in a Late Model class that has seen a larger array of feature winners than any other at the BCR. Vogt was the ninth driver to take A checkers in LM racing, with only Albion’s Mark Lueken and Tad Behmer of Winside winning more than once. Lueken continues to lead the division with Albion’s Mike Kelley second.
Lueken also won his second Modified A Feature of 2010 Friday, solidifying his second-place standing in the class behind fellow Albion racer Tyler Iverson.
The Boone County Raceway will host a special program August 6 featuring the SLMR Late Model Series and support classes. The Albion fairgrounds facility will wrap up its regular racing season Friday, August 13, followed by Championship Night (including the Holt County Sprints) August 20. The track finale will be August 27 with the annual Boone County Raceway Shoot Out.
