Card Harriers Open With Boone Central Invite

Cassidy Pribnow strides by opponentThe Cardinal cross country season began Friday, Sept. 3, with a large field of teams and runners  competing in nearly ideal weather conditions at the Boone Central Invitational.
Boone Central’s young teams got off to a solid start in 2010, with several impressive individual efforts helping the Card girls place fifth in team standings and the boys finish a competitive ninth.
“Although we had a few mishaps, our kids had a nice start to the season,” commented Coach Tom Dickey. “It was a wonderful day to run and times reflected that.
“I was very encouraged with our efforts, especially with so many new kids running,” Dickey praised. “Our ‘rookies’, Jaime Kennedy and Bobbi Beckwith, did a great job, both placing in the top 25.
“Our boys did a great job with some kids in new positions. Alec Wynn and Luke Schmitz both posted times at least a minute faster than they had ever run and Brody Kelley reduced his already fast time by over 30 seconds.
“Our only regret was the unfortunate accident experienced by Calvin Koziol. He was stung by a bee early in the race and that affected him greatly. I’m confident he’ll come back flying next week!
“Our Jr. High kids ran exceptionally well! We had three medal – Andrew Rasmussen, Cody Shanno and Zach VanWormer – and the boys won their division.”
