The Boone Central Cardinals continued a very busy fall softball schedule this past week, hosting O’Neill and Madison for a triangular event Tuesday, Sept. 7, and competing in the Lakeview Invitational at Columbus Saturday.
The Cards also continued to enjoy success, posting three victories in five games to boost their 2010 season record to 8-7.
Boone Central opened its triangular action September 7 with an exciting 5-3 victory over the O’Neill Eagles. The Cards, after collecting just one hit in the initial three frames, came to life after Maria Glidden blasted a triple to straightaway center field, scoring McKenzie Mescher. That seemed to shake the Eagles a bit, as they committed two subsequent errors, and Terri Molt culminated a five-run inning with a clutch two-out, two-run base hit.
The Cardinals had a much easier time in their nightcap, blasting Madison 17-3. Boone Central dominated from the outset, scoring 10 runs in the opening inning. Mescher highlighted the outburst with a pair of triples that drove in three runs. Glidden and Molt each ripped doubles as the Cards collected nine hits in the frame.
Host Lakeview turned a tight game into a late runaway with an 11-1 victory in the opening round of the Lakeview Invitational Saturday at Columbus. Boone Central bounced back with a 9-6 victory over Omaha Duchesne in its second game of the day. The tourney ended on a bit of a sour note as York exploded for 11 runs in the sixth inning of an 18-3 victory over BC, helped in part by five Cardinal errors.
