Card Golfers Get Initial 2010 Tourney Title

After a disappointing outing in the Lakeview Invitational Thursday, the Boone Central Cardinals rebounded to win their first 2010 girls golf tournament title at Saturday’s Pierce Invitational.
Despite missing one of its varsity stalwarts, Boone Central recorded a team score of 402 in the Pierce tournament to finish seven strokes in front of Mid-State Conference rival Norfolk Catholic. Crofton was third (414) and Wayne fourth (421).
“We played better, but the girls still have room to improve – especially in the short game,” noted Cardinal Coach Dennis Walters.

Saturday’s effort followed an off day in the Lakeview Invite at Quail Run in Columbus. Despite having three golfers in the top 15, Walters and his players were dissatisfied with the performance that left Boone Central (393) third behind G.I.N.W. (376) and Scotus (390). Wayne (395) finished fourth.
“It was not a good day. Everyone seemed to pick the same time to have a bad day,” Walters said.
