A 250-ton crane overturned Sunday afternoon, Sept. 19, on the Laredo Ridge Wind Farm site near 240th Avenue, east of Petersburg.
There were no injuries in the incident, and damage to the crane was undetermined as of Monday, according to Mark Grothe, Director of Environmental, Health and Safety at Wanzek Construction, the wind farm contractor. The incident occurred between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
The crane, owned by Wanzek Construction, was being “walked” parallel to an access road toward a wind tower site when the incident occurred. The crane was not under load at the time, Grothe said.
When the crane overturned, its boom came to rest on 240th Avenue, and the Boone County Sheriff’s Department was notified to close 240th Ave. between Highway 32 and 130th Street.
