The Boone Central girls golf team, defending Class C state champion, continued to pick up steam in preparation for 2010 districts by easily capturing the championship at the Wayne Invitational Thursday, Sept. 23.
Junior Britany Seda and senior Brooke Bolin claimed the top individual medals and sophomore teammate Amy Ahlers placed fifth as the Cards outdistanced runner-up Norfolk High JV by 57 strokes (365-422).
“The weather was rainy all day and at times a downpour. There was a 45-minute delay after six holes to let some strong weather cells pass,” noted Boone Central Coach Dennis Walters. “I felt the girls played very well considering the conditions.
“Britany and Brooke tied for first and used a score card to decide who got which medal.”
Seda opened with a front-nine 39, the lowest score among all competitors, and shot a 42 on the back side for a total of 81. Bolin put together a consistent front and back 40-41 to also shoot 81. Ahlers took fifth with a 45-47/92. Rounding out the Cards’ team score was Breann Thorberg with a round of 111 (57-54). Emily Niewohner finished at 130 (60-70).
