Schuele retains commissioner seat

Riedmiller, Rutten are apparent City Council winners

Tom Schuele was re-elected to his District 1 seat on the Boone County Board of Commissioners in the only contested county level race of the 2010 general election.

Schuele defeated challenger Max Olson of St. Edward, 396 to 280.

Albion City Councilman Jim Riedmiller was re-elected to a four-year term along with write-in candidate Don Rutten, who was the apparent winner in a close race over write-in candidate Cole Frey.

The counting board tally Tuesday night showed Rutten received 101 total votes, while Frey garnered 98 and a third write-in candidate, Alvin Meyer, received 49 total votes.

Riedmiller, the only candidate listed on the ballot, received 404 votes.

Boone County had a 47 percent voter turnout. The county has 3,954 registered voters, and 1,847 cast ballots on Nov. 2.
