BC Volley Season Ends In Sub Play

Boone Central’s callow volleyball team had it’s difficult 2010 season end with a split in the C1-8 Sub-District at Norfolk Monday, Nov. 1.
The Cardinals won just their third match of the campaign in the post-season opener vs. Madison, then were eliminated from the sub-district tourney by a talented Battle Creek squad.
Boone Central, which finished 2010 with a 3-20 mark, defeated Madison for the second time Monday in a topsy-turvy five-set donnybrook (25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-6).
The Cardinals had a strong match at the service line with just five errors in the five-set marathon. Sophomore Rachel Lee led the way, serving 28-of-29 and firing eight aces. Junior Jenna Lehmann had five aces in the contest.
Lehmann was a force at the net with nine kills on 17-of-23 hitting and three blocks. Freshman Jade Gottier smacked eight kills, hitting 12-of-13, and made a pair of blocks. Freshman Marissa Beierman chipped in three kills.
Sophomore Alexa Johnson and Lee directed the Card attack with eight and six assists, respectively. Gottier led the team in digs with eight and was 19-of-20 on serve receptions. Beierman and junior Kelli Larson each added two digs and Lee was 12-for-12 returning serve.
Boone Central could not get untracked in its second C1-8 match of the night, dropping a 3-0 decision to Mid-State Conference foe Battle Creek.
Gottier (6) and Lehmann (5) led kills vs. the Bravettes, with Johnson (4) and Lee (3) again leading assists. Gottier and Beierman each made four digs, with Gottier returning 15-of-16 serves and Beierman 7-of-8.
