A new digital projection system for the Gateway Theatre was the primary discussion topic at the monthly meeting of the Gateway Youth Foundation last Tuesday night, Nov. 2.
Changes are coming in the movie industry, and the Gateway Youth Foundation (GYF) has been investigating a switch to digital projection over the past several months.
Some movie theaters have already made the switch to digital, and movie distributors have served notice that the day is coming when movies will no longer be available on 35 millimeter film.
The cost of a digital projection system is high, but some members of the GYF board said they feel the cost of this electronic technology could come down in the near future. Or, they said, better systems could be coming out at lower cost, as has happened with other types of electronic equipment.
