Village Board considers possible utility rate hike

Possible increases in utility rates were considered by the Petersburg Village Board during its monthly meeting last Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The board is discussing possible increases in water, sewer and garbage collection fees. Some upcoming capital expenses include cleaning and painting of the water tower and installation of a UV treatment system at the sewage treatment plant.

A rate comparison by the Nebraska Rural Water Association shows Petersburg’s water and sewer service fees are among the lowest for similar sized towns.

Present water service fee is $10 per month, with an additional charge of 50 cents per 1,000 gallons. The board is considering an increase to $15 per month plus 80 cents per 1,000 gallons of usage.
