The Boone Central Cardinals may have surprised some people during the 2010 high school football season.
Boone Central entered the ‘10 campaign as somewhat of an unknown, with an extremely young squad returning just four starters and including only nine seniors.
The Cardinals concluded the season as a Class C1 top ten threat, finishing second in the C1-8 district and upsetting 5th-rated Broken Bow (Omaha World-Herald) in the opening round of the state playoffs before losing a round-of-16 contest to St. Paul.
Boone Central finished with a 6-4 overall record, 3-1 in district play.
The Cardinal success at the district level was reflected in post-season honors, as eight BC players were selected to the C1-8 All-District team and another nine received Honorable Mention.
All-District picks were seniors Keenan Howell (6-2, 175), Lane Anderson (5-9, 165), Logan Frey (6-0, 165), Matt Spieker (5-9, 186) and Trey Sorell (6-2, 165), juniors Zach Wurdeman (5-11, 160) and Colton Mazour (5-11, 170) and sophomore Tanner Mazour (5-8, 150).
Receiving Honorable Mention were seniors Wade Reigle (6-0, 152), Jon Christo (6-0, 195) and James O’Brien (5-8, 180), juniors Brett Temme (6-2, 205), Tony Krohn (6-4, 175) and Nathan Schriver (6-0, 140) and sophomores Blake Slizoski (5-9, 160), Beau Bremer (6-4, 190) and Hallick Lehmann (6-4, 202).
