Commercial operation of Laredo Ridge wind farm near Petersburg is set to begin Feb. 1, 2011, according to Nebraska Public Power District.
NPPD is currently taking all electricity generated by Laredo Ridge.
When commercial operation begins, the 80 megawatts of power will be shared by four purchasing partners.
NPPD will use 61 megawatts or 76.25 percent of the generated power. Lincoln Electric System will take 10 megawatts or 12.5 percent.
Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) will take eight megawatts or 10 percent, and the City of Grand Island will take one megawatt or 1.25 percent.
As of 8:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, NPPD’s Control Center at Doniphan reported that Laredo Ridge was generating 63.8 megawatts of electricity. The utility was also receiving 79 megawatts from Elkhorn Ridge in Knox County and 24 megawatts from the NPPD wind farm at Ainsworth.
