Card Wrestlers Show Grit In Big High Plains Meet

Stopak after positionSeven Boone Central wrestlers competed in the High Plains Invitational at Clarks Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8, and enjoyed moments of success in one of the area’s biggest, most difficult meets.
The Cardinals finished 12th of 17 teams and three individuals placed in their weight classes.

“Everyone showed sparks of excellence during most every match,” he added. “The key now is to turn that spark into a flame and keep it burning throughout each match.”

Bobby Stopak, Jacob Meyer and Scott Joe led the way for Boone Central over the two-day event.

“Bobby was our ‘Wrestler of the Meet’, going 6-3. In his final match Bobby avenged an earlier loss with a 10-0 major decision to capture third place,” Bonge praised. “In Bobby’s other two losses, he went the distance with defending state champ Dominguez of O’Neill. His wins included one over a returning state qualifier.

Meyer (135) and Joe (140) both finished with 2-5 records in the competition and placed 7th.

Bonge also saw positives from his wrestlers who did not make it to day two, as six of seven Cardinals competing won at least once.
