It was a big year for construction in Boone County, primarily because of the Laredo Ridge Wind Farm construction.
The past year’s building activity for rural Boone County, and the communities of Albion, Cedar Rapids and Petersburg, represented a total investment of $188,240,883. A total of 223 building permits were issued.
The building permit numbers and project values for 2010 were announced last week by Barb Hanson, county zoning administrator.
The vast majority of that total ($175,814,405) represents the investment in the Laredo Ridge Wind Farm near Petersburg. Construction phase of the 54-tower wind farm has been completed, and final testing of the equipment is underway in preparation for commercial operation.
