Albion Volunteer Fire Department responded to two grass fires over the psat weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, March 3, a series of small grass fires on east Hihgway 91 was caused by a tire blow-out on a towed vehicle. Due to strong winds from the south, one of the fires threatened the home of Jackie Christo near the highway. The leading edge of the fire came within 50 feet of the home before it was extinguished.
On Sunday afternoon, March 6, firemen were called to a grass fire five mles east and one-half mile north of Albion. This fire was also pushed by a strong wind and burned 60 to 70 acres of pasture.
