A possible new swimming pool or aquatic center for the City of Albion gained momentum at the Albion City Council meeting last Tuesday night, March 8.
The council formally thanked Mitzi Fox for her gift in January of more than $266,000 to the Boone County Area Foundation Fund. The gift is earmarked for a new city swimming pool or a new public library within five years.
Mayor Jim Jarecki also announced that he will seek volunteers from the Albion community who are interested in the pool project to form a committee.
This committee will initially gauge community support for the pool project, then will assist in fundraising, and ultimately assist the city council in making decisions about the pool.
Anyone who would like to serve on the pool committee should send a letter of interest to Mayor Jarecki, 420 Market Street, Albion, NE 68620. The names of committee members are to be submitted to the city council by April 12 for confirmation.
