Cards Open At Madison Relays

After being postponed from earlier in the week, the Madison Relays gave Boone Central an opportunity to open the 2011 track & field season Thursday, March 31.
Despite more poor weather, the Cardinals had a successful debut, winning the girls division and placing second in boys competition.
“We competed very well in somewhat adverse weather conditions,” praised Boone Central Coach Kris Pestel. “We had some very good early-season marks, which we are excited to build on through the rest of the season.
“The competitiveness of our daily practices shows in the way the kids competed at Madison. They represented the Boone Central community very well and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.”
The Lady Cardinals racked up 96 points in the meet, spearheaded by nine first-place efforts. Card teams won the 400 relay (52.57), 400 freshmen relay (58.66), 400 field event relay (60.32), 800 relay (1:59.77), 1600 relay (4:28.28) and distance medley (14:44.8). Boone Central also dominated in the field events, winning the discus relay (312-3), shot put relay (107-11) and long jump relay (42-7¾).
The Boone Central boys compiled 92 points and won three events, all in field competition. The Cards took the discus relay (304-2), long jump relay (52-3½) and triple jump relay (115-1½).
