Cardinals Defeat West Holt, Madison In Track & Field

Brody Kelley sprints to finishJenna Lehmann edges aheadBoone Central continued the early portion of its 2011 track & field season hosting West Holt and Madison for triangular competition Tuesday, April 5, at the athletic field in Albion.
Cardinal teams gave a strong performance, winning the girls and boys divisions. The Lady Cardinals scored 89 points to top West Holt (64) and Madison (23) and the BC boys totaled 88 to finish in front of the Huskies (63) and Dragons (23).
“I am so pleased with how our kids are competing,” praised Cardinal Coach Kris Pestel. “The girls and boys both won 10 of 17 events, the boys had multiple placers in nine events and the girls in seven.
“The competitiveness of our kids is really showing. They are all working hard for the benefit of the team,” she commented. “Our next meet is not until the 15th at Central City and we really need the time to improve our individual skills and, also, to heal up some injuries.”
The Boone Central girls had three individuals win two events in the triangular event. Senior Sara Wells took top honors in the shot put (38-6) and discus (123-9), junior Jaime Kennedy won the long jump (15-8¾) and 200 meter dash (26.3) and junior Jenna Lehmann  was victorious in the high jump (4-6) and 100 meter high hurdles (18.8).
On the boys side, a pair of Cardinals won two events each. Junior Cole Luettel took the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (41-½) and sophomore Blake Slizoski won the long jump (18-4¼) and 200 dash (23.3).
Other individual event winners for Boone Central were freshman Brooke Anderson in the 100 dash (13.9), freshman Jade Gottier in the 300 low hurdles (52.4), junior Brett Temme in the shot put (42-0), junior Brody Kelley in the 1600 meter run (4:56.7) and senior Jacob Lindgren in the 3200 run (11:31.2).
The Boone Central boys swept the relay events and the Cardinal girls won two of three relay events.
