Cards 5th In BC Invite Golf

Trey Sorell chips on hole #6Golf is not particularly enjoyable, or easy to play, on days like Monday.
Seven of fourteen scheduled high school teams braved the cold, breezy conditions, however, to compete in the annual Boone Central Invitational at the Albion Country Club. The meet had been postponed from Saturday due to the effects of last week’s snowfall.
All in all, considering the circumstances, scores were surprisingly good for an early-season meet (Boone Central was playing just its second competition of 2011).
O’Neill claimed the event championship with a team total of 331 and leading Eagle Blake Bauer was the gold medalist with a 78 – the only round of the day under 80.
The inexperienced host Cardinals had a solid day, as the varsity placed fifth at 399 and the JV seventh with a 478. Junior Kade Leetch was the lone Boone Central medalist, placing eighth with an 85.
Leetch was one of three Cards to improve on his second nine of the day, coming back with a strong 41 after a 44 on his morning round.
Senior Trey Sorell followed Leetch in the Cardinal pecking order with a 44/52-96, finishing just three positions out of the medals at 18th. Jacob Olson led the BC JV with a 115 total.
Boone Central was scheduled to compete in the Scotus Invitational Wednesday at Columbus and will host the Mid-State Conference tournament Monday, April 25, at the Albion Country Club (9 am).
