Many more local recyclers will need to sign up in order to conduct a pilot recycling program, which is scheduled to start in Albion on June 1, 2011.
In an effort to hold down garbage pick-up costs, Albion City Council agreed in April to conduct the residential recycling program in conjunction with Bud’s Sanitary Service. At that time, it was noted that 80 to 85 percent participation by Albion residential customers would be needed in order to make the pilot program work.
At present, garbage pick-up service is provided to 642 residential customers in Albion. At least 545 of those customers would need to participate in the recycling program to reach the 85 percent level.
As of May 2, some 204 residential customers (37.4 percent) had signed up for recycling.
