Card Middle School Impressive At Mid-State

Boone Central’s Middle School track & field athletes saved some of their most impressive performances for when it mattered most – the season-closing Mid-State Conference Jr. High Championships Saturday, May 7, at West Point.
The Cardinals won the team championship in the 7th grade girls division, placed 2nd among 8th grade boys teams, took 3rd in the 7th grade boys competition and finished 4th in the 8th grade girls division.
“I was very impressed with, and proud of, the Middle School track & field teams at conference,” praised Coach Jeff Bussey. “They not only came to compete with the rest of the conference, but also with themselves.
“The 7th grade girls broke or tied season-bests 14 times, the 7th grade boys 19 times, the 8th grade girls 19 times and the 8th grade boys 29 times.”
Dana Pelster set a school record in the pole vault (8-4) and Wyatt Mazour established a new school standard in the long jump (18-7), joining Michael Lipker, who had broken the shot put record earlier in the season.
