Junior Kade Leetch and the Boone Central Cardinals had one of their best tournament performances of the 2011 golf season in the Fullerton Invitational May 10 at Pawnee Hills Golf Course.
On a rare sunny day, with temperatures reaching the 90s, Leetch placed second among tournament medalists and Boone Central finished sixth in the team standings, just 12 strokes behind the host champions.
Fullerton won the event with a team total of 327, one stroke in front of Boone Central’s Mid-State rival Battle Creek. The Cardinals finished with a 339 total, five back of fifth-place Central City.
Leetch tied David City’s Bob Minert for the day’s low score, firing a one-over par 73 and finishing second in the playoff. Leetch posted a sizzling 34 on his opening nine and came back with a 39. Battle Creek’s Brad Lanman and Evan Swartzbaugh of the G.I. Northwest JV were close behind the leaders at 75.
All Boone Central golfers finished the tourney in double digits for the first time in 2011. Rounding out the Cards’ team score (top four comprise total) were:
Trey Sorell (43/43-86), Curtis Thompson (44/45-89), Hunter Henry (47/44-91) and Sean Soll (47/50-97).
Rocky C3
Boone Central concluded the 2011 high school golf season Monday, May 16, with a rocky day at the C3 District tournament.
The Cardinals, with a team total of 438, finished 13th of 15 teams in the event held at Norfolk Country Club. Plainview was the C3 District champion with a 337 team score. Pirate Mitchell Klooz was the individual medalist with a 73.
Boone Central golfers struggled throughout the tournament, with only junior Kade Leetch able to break 100. Leetch finished with a 50/45-95 on the N.C.C. 18-hole layout.
Completing the team score for the Cardinals were Hunter Henry (57/54-111), Caleb Walters (57/56-113) and Curtis Thompson (59/60-119).
