Boone Central athletes concluded the 2010-11 athletic year with another solid performance in the Nebraska Track & Field Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium May 20-21.
Nine Cardinal qualifiers brought home 11 medals and praise from Boone Central Coach Kris Pestel.
“This year’s Boone Central team was a group that wasn’t afraid to work and fight to improve. Girls and boys, the kids all supported each other and pushed each other to get better,” Pestel commented. “That culminated in another good state meet where we were able to bring home some medals.”
Individually, three Cards scored state honors. Jaime Kennedy beat Amber Ewers of Scotus, who edged the Cardinal junior for the District B4 gold, in their 200 meter dash prelim late on a rainy Friday (26.111), then sprinted to a 4th place medal Saturday in a season-best (electronic timing) 25.988.
On the field side, Wells launched a 127-5 throw to place 5th in the discus competition and Cole Luettel tied for 8th with a 6-0 high jump.
The Cardinals closed the meet Saturday by earning medals in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays for the second straight year.
Boone Central began Saturday with a 5th place effort by the 4×100 team of Brooke Anderson, Kennedy, Breann Thorberg and Bobbi Beckwith in a season-best time of 50.748. They closed the meet with Jade Gottier joining Kennedy, Thorberg and Beckwith to place 8th in the 4×400, also running a 2011 best of 4:07.441.
Beckwith competed in the 400 meter dash Friday, running a prelim time of 1:02.914, and Cleveland threw 108-3 in the discus. Blake Slizoski had prelim times of 11.699 in the 100 dash and 23.888 in the 200.
