Cornerstone Legion Earns Split

The Cornerstone Legion Baseball Juniors remained even for the season (10-10) this past week, splitting contests at Greeley and St. Paul.
Cornerstone lost a 7-6 heartbreaker June 29 to St. Paul as the hosts scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.
The Albion Juniors were tied 2-2 through four innings as Derek Gentrup singled and scored on Tyler Hedlund’s base hit in the 1st and Calvin Koziol came home on a Cole Luettel double after walking to open the 3rd.
Koziol singled and scored again in the 5th and Cornerstone took a 6-2 lead in the top of the 6th on RBI hits by Logan Olson and Luettel. The hosts tallied twice in the bottom of the frame, then scored the victory in the 7th when Isaac Stone doubled home two and Austin Schulte singled in the winner.
The Albion Juniors got back in the win column July 1, defeating PWG 14-5 at Greeley. Olson doubled home two in a three-run 2nd inning to get Cornerstone started and the locals took a 5-1 lead with runs by Gentrup and Luettel in the top of the 3rd. PWG knotted the score with four in the bottom of the inning, but from there Albion pitcher Brett Temme slammed the door.
Cornerstone went back on top with four in the 4th, taking advantage or four walks, two PWG errors and a double by Chad Bode. Luettel singled home Olson and Koziol in the 5th and Albion wrapped up the victory with three final runs in the 6th.
