Beckwith Concludes Prep Career On Winning All-Star Side

Bobbi Beckwith of Albion helped lead the Blue team to a convincing victory in Monday night’s Nebraska Coaches Association girls basketball all-star game at Lincoln North Star High School.
The Blues pulled away in the second half to score a convincing 78-61 win in front of an estimated crowd of 2,000 and a statewide NET1 television audience.
Beckwith, the former Boone Central standout playing her final prep competition, got the Blues off to a fast start, scoring the team’s initial points on a baseline jumper, then making a nifty fast-break assist moments later.
The Blue squad held a slim 18-17 edge after one quarter and carried a 36-32 lead into intermission. The Blues took control in the third period, holding the Reds to just four field goals, and pulled away in the final stanza as Lexington’s Hailey Mandelko heated up, hitting all four of her three-pointers. Mandelko led the Blues with a game-high 20 points and University of Nebraska recruit Emily Cady of Seward had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Although Beckwith scored just five points, she provided the Blue team with steady ballhandling and excellent perimeter defense that drew comments from NET1 announcer Nick Bahe, who noted “Beckwith plays defense the correct way, with her feet and not her hands.”
