Card pitcher Gina NelsonFollowing a summer in which members of the Boone Central softball team qualified for state tournaments in two age groups, the Cardinals were hoping to get their 2011 high school season off to a successful start.
Mission accomplished.
Boone Central opened its fall campaign with victories over Schuyler (9-5) and Cross County (7-5) in a triangular Thursday, Aug. 25., at the Albion Sports Complex.
The Cards banged out 28 hits in the two games and, except for an inning or two, were sharp on the mound and in the field.

Boone Central got off to a rough start with two losses in the Fillmore Central softball tournament at Geneva Saturday, but bounced back to finish with a victory that pushed its season record to 3-2.

The Cardinals dropped a 12-2 decision to tough Twin River Saturday morning, committing four errors as the Titans scored nine runs in the third inning. Host Fillmore Central handed BC a 7-1 loss in its second tourney game, allowing the Cards just two hits and five baserunners. Boone Central finished the day on a positive note with a 10-3 win over Raymond Central, using their own eight-run second inning to break the contest open.
