With a week of preparation, the Boone Central Cardinals were psyched for a key C1-8 District football tilt at St. Paul Friday night, hoping to wipe away the final memories of a 35-7 loss to Class C1 #2 Pierce the previous week.
Then, due to Mother Nature’s interference, they were asked to channel that emotion and energy all over again Saturday morning.
No problem.
The Cardinals ignored Friday’s postponement due to thunderstorms and produced some thunder and lightning of their own the following day in a dominant 34-14 victory over the host Wildcats.
The win improved Boone Central’s overall record to 4-2 and boosted their mark in district play to 2-0 with two games remaining in the 2011 regular season.
“Our kids did a great job dealing with the travel and preparation for this game,” lauded Boone Central Coach Arnie Johnson. “We essentially had to prepare to play the game twice.
“It was nice to be able to run the ball right at them. I thought, as the game went on, we became more confident and more physical.”
