Boone Central Whips #2 Whippets!

Jenna Lehmann scorches WhippetsMinden entered Monday’s Class C1 showdown in Albion ranked #2 in the class, Boone Central #10.
Someone might want to rethink those positions after the Lady Cardinals ambushed the Whippets 69-50 before a large “White Out” crowd at the Boone Central gymnasium.
Boone Central stunned the visitors by racing to a 12-4 lead in the opening minutes, held a 20-15 advantage after a wildly entertaining 1st quarter and never let up in a performance that saw them dominate all phases of the game.
“There were just so many things we did well tonight,” praised Cardinal Coach Mike Kennedy. “We passed the ball well, shot it well and were incredibly unselfish.
“We wanted to limit their free throw opportunities and held them to five attempts just two nights after sending West Holt to the line 32 times. We also outrebounded them by seven.
“All of this was important, but the amount of heart we showed was phenomenal!” Kennedy stressed. “We said before the game that anyone who comes here has to answer to what we do and we wanted to make sure we took it to them at every opportunity.
“It really felt like we did just that. It was a great effort by all of our players and coaches – a job well done!”

Boone Central increased its 36-25 halftime lead on the opening possession of the 2nd half as Kennedy nailed another 3-pointer from the left corner. Minden made several pushes over the next three minutes, pulling within 39-31 on Brooke Kissinger’s trey and 41-34 when Kissinger dropped in another 3-point bomb.
The Cardinals emphatically answered the challenge and brought the home crowd back to its feet. Lehmann began an 8-0 BC run off a nifty assist from Gottier, Kennedy scored on an offensive rebound and sank yet another 3-point field goal, and Shannon Stuhlmiller came off the bench to hit a trey and push the advantage to 51-34 with 1:05 left in the third.
For the third straight quarter, Boone Central opened the 4th with a 3-pointer, this time by Gottier, and Kennedy followed with her own to open a 20-point Cardinal lead.
