Card JV Wrestlers Gain Experience At NG Duals

While the holiday period was a quiet time for the Boone Central varsity wrestling team, Cardinal JV competitors were able to gain valuable experience by competing in the Newman Grove Holiday Duals Friday, Dec. 30.
“This meet provided our junior varsity wrestlers, along with several varsity wrestlers who had missed some earlier meets, a chance to gain some experience,” Card Coach Dale Bonge said. “With only six wrestlers competing, the dual tournament format did not bode well for our team chances, but did provide opportunity for individuals.
“Although the team finished with an 0-5 record, were 12-11 in actual matches wrestled. When forfeits are added in, we picked up seven more wins while giving up 21 more losses.
“Skyler Weber returned to action following an injury incurred against GINW and showed no ill effects, scoring five straight pins,” Bonge commented. “Travis Merten made his high school debut, also going 5-0. Unfortunately, he had only one actual match, which he won by pin.
“Jackson Meyer and Mark O’Brien each went 3-2 in similar fashion, with a pair of pins and a forfeit victory. Tyler Maricle scored one pin and received a forfeit. Jacob Olson scored a pin and was competitive in his other three matches.”
