The Boone Central wrestling team began to reap the benefits of hard work and perseverance this past Saturday with its best performance of the season in the 2012 Bill Foster Invitational at Gibbon.
There is still work ahead for the young Cardinals, however.
“One champ, three finalists, six medalists and a third place team finish is our best showing of the season,” commented veteran BC Coach Dale Bonge. “While that is all well and good, we aren’t completely pleased, as we did falter in a few areas and need to continue to improve as we head into the final month of the season.”
Boone Central was one of just three teams to reach the 100 point mark Saturday. The Cards totaled 100.5 team points to place third behind Southern Valley (128.5) and Ord (122).
Senior Jake Meyer was the top individual story, winning his initial tournament championship at 145 pounds. Meyer was joined in the finals by BC runners-up Bobby Stopak and Kody Sock. Also winning medals for the Cards were Sean Soll, Ethan Wilke and Cody Shanno.
“Jake had an outstanding meet, as he totally dominated his competition with a pair of wins and a tech fall for his first career varsity tournament title,” Bonge praised.
