The Boone Central wrestling team concluded the dual portion of its 2011-12 season on a high note last Thursday, defeating Cross County/Osceola and High Plains in competition at Clarks.
The victories gave the Cardinals a 6-5 dual record – their first winning dual season in four years.
Boone Central easily topped Cross County/Osceola 58-9, receiving eight open-weight forfeits and winning all but two contested matches.
Cardinal sophomore Kody Sock pinned 195-pound opponent Cole Church (1:07) to lock up Boone Central’s 42-35 win over host High Plains. BC again benefited from four forfeits by the Storm.
Boone Central finished a solid 5th in the team standings of the Madison Invitational Friday with seven medalists.
The host Dragons won the event with 270.5 points, followed by Pender (242.5), Wakefield (201), Stanton (1221.5) and Boone Central (119.5).
“Having seven medalists in a 16-team tournament is an overall improvement,” commented Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge. “We had a decent tournament where we again showed improvement overall, but we regressed in a couple of situations.
“To get where we need to be for districts in a few weeks, we need to continue improvements and eliminate regressions.”
“Jake Meyer and Skyler Weber led the way for us, eaching placing third with 4-1 records,” Bonge continued. “Both suffered their only defeat of the tournament in the semi-finals.”
