It would appear the Boone Central Cardinals have found their offensive rhythm.
After scoring 83 points vs. Ord the previous week, Boone Central just missed hitting the 80-point mark again Friday, blitzing visiting Battle Creek 79-46 to even its season record at 8-8.
Scoring inside and out, the Cardinals got off to a fast start, building a 23-14 first-quarter lead. A 21-6 run in the second period increased that advantage to a healthy 44-20 at intermission.
“A good start and a good finish might be the best way to describe it,” said a pleased Boone Central Coach Dan Zoucha. “We were focused on the task at hand and were able to take control of the game early with some good shooting and good defense.
“Getting the ball inside has been a priority and we saw a better attempt at getting that accomplished. We rebounded consistently, as we knew we would have a size advantage.
“We were pleased with how we distributed the ball in this game.,” he added. “Many players contributed to the win.”
Two three-point field goals by Brett Temme and another from Derek Gentrup helped BC get rolling in the opening period. Six-foot-six center Beau Bremer then dominated in the paint, scoring nine points as the Cardinals pulled away in the second quarter.
