‘Baskets of Hope’ raises over $22,000

SPECIAL GUESTS — Cooper DeWitt’s grandparents, Mark and Karen Victor of Wakefield, were special guests at the ‘Baskets of Hope’ fundraiser last Friday night.“Baskets of Hope,” a special fund-raising event to assist the family of two-year-old Cooper Jack DeWitt, raised more than $22,000 in total proceeds.

An estimated 300 people or more attended the final fund-raising event at The J Sports Bar and Grill in Albion throughout Friday evening, March 16.

Cooper, son of Justin and Jenni DeWitt of Albion, was diagnosed with leukemia in February. He has been undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital in Omaha.

Jenni’s parents, Mark and Karen Victor of Wakefield, were able to attend the Friday night event. They reported that Cooper was allowed to leave the hospital for the first time on Friday. He and his parents are staying at Rainbow House in Omaha.

A final round of bidding on the more than 180 baskets was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, followed by announcement of the basket winners.
