Strong Mid-State Finish For BC/NG 7th-8th Track, Field

The Boone Central/Newman Grove track & field teams concluded their 2012 seasons in impressive fashion in the Mid-State Conference Meet at Madison May 5.
Boone Central/Newman Grove won the 8th grade girls division with 100.33 points and was runner-up in the 8th grade boys competition with 102, just four points behind champion Norfolk Catholic. In the 7th grade portion of the meet, BC/NG finished sixth in both the girls (42.5) and boys (40) divisions.
Boone Central/Newman Grove had one individual event champion in 7th grade girls competition as Jaclyn Frey threw 24’8¾ in the shot put.
BC/NG won the 8th grade girls title without a gold medalist. The Cardinals did get runner-up performances by Sheldon Beierman (14’2¾ long jump, 17.0 100 hurdles) Hannah Schmitz (6:15.2 1600 run) and Kyley Sorell (7’ pole vault). The 4×100 relay team of Celine Dunlap, Ashlynn Baker, Kaddee Harner and Elissa Slizoski ran second in 56.07 and the 4×400 quartet of Esmer Arreguin, Destiny Johnson, Harner and Taylor Starman took second in 4:53.94.
Card Dalton Wagner was a double gold medalist in the 7th grade boys division, winning the shot put (33’10) and discus (117’2).
In the 8th grade boys division, Scott Ketteler won the 100 meter hurdles (16.26), Kyle Kramer captured the 400 meter dash gold (59.38) and won the high jump (5’6), Keaton Henry won the shot put (42’11½), and the relay team of Damian Backus, Henry, Kramer and Ketteler was victorious in the 4×100 (50.12).
Boone Central/Newman Grove Coach Jeff Bussey also noted that several junior high school records were broken or tied during the 2012 season.
Scott Ketteler set new standards in the 100 hurdles, 33” height (16.1), 100 hurdles, 30” height (16.6) and 195 hurdles, 30” height (29.3). Sheldon Beierman also set a new mark in the 195 meter hurdles (30.9). Kyle Kramer matched the high jump record (5’8) and Celine Dunlap tied the record in the 55 meter hurdles (9.4).
