Boone Central senior Kade Leetch fashioned a strong finish when it counted most, placing in the top ten of the C-3 District golf field and qualifying for the 2012 Nebraska Class C State Golf Tournament Monday at Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk.
Leetch, who had gone out with a 44 over the opening nine holes of the Fairplay layout, stormed through the final nine with a three-over-par 39 to finish the C-3 tournament at 83.
Leetch’s par on the final hole proved to be crucial, as his 83 total put the Card senior in a seven-way tie for ninth place. A scorecard playoff awarded the ninth-place medal to Elgin/Pope John’s Nick Heithoff, leaving the remaining six golfers tied for 10th place and the final state qualifying position. All will advance to the Class C state tourney May 22-23 at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney.
Boone Central finished ninth in the C-3 team standings with a 384 total. Compiling the team score with Leetch were Hunter Henry (45/50-95), Chris Ketteler (50/49-99) and Sean Soll (52/55-107). Alex Johnson finished at 61/59-120.
Plainview (298), Elgin/Pope John (331) and Norfolk Catholic (337) were the state qualifying teams from C-3 play.
