A meeting of interested Albion residents was held last Friday, June 1, at the Albion Country Club to begin work on the effort to raise advance funds for the new Albion aquatic center.
Albion voters will be asked to support a $2,950,000 bond election for the pool project on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Pool supporters plan to seek commitments for a total of 20 percent of the $3.6 million project cost.
The total in advance funds needed is $732,000 to reach the 20 percent goal, but $331,000 of this amount is already available through a $266,000 donation by Mitzi Fox and $65,000 in city budgeted reserves.
This leaves $401,000 in advance funds yet to be raised through the capital campaign. Any funds raised over that amount will be used to reduce the bonded indebtedness.
About 25 people attended the June 1 meeting to learn more about the pool project and upcoming fund raising campaign.
