voodoo.jpgThere were plenty of entertaining events for 2012 Boone County Fair patrons to enjoy – in the grandstand, at the arena and all around the fairgrounds in Albion.
Following are results from some of the activities that drew solid turnouts of participants and spectators during a hot July 5-12 fair run.
Team Penning
The Team Penning competition drew 48 teams Monday, July 9, from the local area, as well as St. Paul, Spalding, Ericson and Genoa.
Ten teams advanced to the finals, with the trio of Roger Williams, Doug Vondrak and Tom Schwarzkopf finishing as the overall winners. The team of James Hanson, Scott Beck and Joe Beck placed second, and Joe Beck teamed with Dale Zeigler and Mark Kasperbauer for third.
Stock Car Races
In Monday’s other main attraction, Doug Adamy of Columbus won the Street Stock feature race at the fairground’s Boone County Raceway and Norfolk’s Tad Pospisil captured the Limited Late Model feature.
Combine Demo Derby
The Combine Demo Derby Tuesday, July 10, continued to be a popular fan draw in 2012.
Following a pair of heats, the big finale was won by Michael Schriver in the ‘Camo Combine’. The remainder of the final field finished as follows: 2- Nathan Figgner, 3- Mark Tisthammer, 4- Keith Prothman, 5- Ryan Figgner, 6- Craig Prothman, 7- Kyle Woninski, 8- Brady Christman.
Car Soccer
Three cars were entered in a new event – ‘Car Soccer’. Jared Rasmussen of Newman Grove vied against Tyler and Kyle Osmera of Weston and the three drivers split the prize pot for participation. Unofficially, Tyler Osmera scored two goals and Rasmussen one.
Two-Car Chain Races
Tuff Trucks
The 2012 fair grandstand programs ended Wednesday night with Two-Car Chain Races and the Tuff Trucks (and cars) competition.
After a pair of heat races, the duo of Travis Landauer and Eric Berglund won the Two-Car Chain Race finale. Mark Carraher and LJ Roach took second, with Jeff and Dennis Weltruski third.
The Tuff Truck event was abbreviated by several injuries, but winning the competition was Jon Christo. Jeff VanDeWalle was second and Keith Arris third.
One of the highlights of the evening was an exhibition by Bill Ahlers in his high-flying Dodge “Voodoo Hunter” truck.
