Sheriff’s office employees Carolyn Beckman and Sheryl Machacek, communications director, with computer monitors showing new mapping technology.Last week, the Boone County Sheriff’s office became the first agency in Nebraska to achieve the capability to map Telematics 911 calls.

This means the Sheriff’s office Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or 911 center, can actually generate a computer screen map to identify the location of contacts from “On-Star” calls transmitted in its jurisdiction.

Only a few full service 911 centers in the U.S. have taken the steps that allow mapping of Telematics 911 calls.
