Although the Valero Renewables ethanol plant near Albion has been idle since June, a company official last week expressed confidence the plant will be back in production as soon as market conditions change.
Meanwhile, all 60 employees at the local plant will remain employed, said Bill Day, Valero’s executive director of corporate communications. He spoke at an Aug. 29 press conference in the plant.
Most employees are now involved in plant maintenance and training. Under the plant’s current operating schedule, the equipment is restarted every few weeks to keep the equipment clean and processes in place.
